Forget & Fight: Be a Goldfish!

As a sports fan, and a father one of my current favorite shows is Ted Lasso. The Apple+ Tv show is a hallmark of cliché coach speak and positivity. And although one of the most recent episodes was quite oddly coach Beard focused, I can’t help but think of one of the early season one quotes:

“You know what the happiest animal in the world is? It’s a goldfish. It’s got a 10 second memory. Be a goldfish”

Ted Lasso

Last weekend we at TWH witnessed a goldfish on the football field, and although Ryan won’t like this recap, I can’t help but smile as I type. We left the wives and kids home and ventured up 35 to Norman Oklahoma to see the 50th anniversary of the “Game of the Century.”

The “goldfish moment” happened with 10:00 left in the 4th quarter as Adrian Martinez completed a 55-yard pass to Zavier Betts. Betts zipped past OU defender DJ Graham on the left sideline (coming right at us from our corner seats) and made the crowd silencing first down catch.  Four plays later DJ Graham made the viral interception cheekily called “The Interception of the Century.”

That catch was every-bit as good live as the highlights show. I said repeatedly in the stands “He shouldn’t have caught it, but that was probably the best catch I have ever seen.”  No one will remember the play 4 plays earlier, but I feel like we should remember them together. Continue to “be a goldfish” DJ!
