NCAAF Week Zero Everything you need Hot Takes guaranteed

Well, that was quite a week zero! Here are the highlights and hot takes. There were some eyebrow raising outcomes on the betting side of things. These early surprises are important things to keep an eye on for future week matchups.

Surprises and Considerations

Connecticut covered their +23.5 spread! Utah State has some holes to fill on rushing D giving up 245 yards and 6.3 yards per carry. UCON is actually 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games…

Nevada has a LOT of work to do on offense with just 78 passing yards. NMS gave the game away with 5 turnovers. This game was awful, I’m already looking at the Texas State vs. Nevada matchup as a potential money maker at TXST +3.5.

Western Kentucky had the same kind of luck as Nevada. Consequently, their opponent also gave the ball away 4 times including a pick-six. Austin Peay had a comical 7 play 9-yard drive that actually ended with 3 points. It will be interesting to see how Western Kentucky does next week. They face off against a Hawaii team that got absolutely trounced by Vanderbilt.

Emphatically, I can’t wait any longer. Nebraska…an ONSIDE Kick up 11 in the third after TD, forced turnover, TD?

I woke my wife up from her TIKTOK gaze yelling “what the hell are they thinking,” right as the ball wobbled off the kicker’s foot.

Onside kick calls in general are quite polarizing.

The possibility of recovery in this instance, just doesn’t outweigh the risk.

Even if the score was flipped, and I had just pulled within 11 points in the third, there is no way I make that call.

With coaching like that I don’t see myself playing either side of NEB lines. Nebraska continues to be a wagering enigma

Lee Corso in one of week zero’s sadder moments:

Lee Corso has been a vital part of College Gameday, his iconic “not so fast my friend” and headgear pics have been a staple of fall Saturday mornings for over two decades. Corso is college football royalty. Unfortunately, I think his time doing live TV should come to an end.

Corso just hasn’t really been the same since his stroke in 2009. Even with Kirk Herbstreit stepping in to play a sort of “on air caretaker” the struggle is hard to miss. I do believe this will be his last year and it’s hard to imagine College Gameday without him.
